It's not easy describing how to make a diaper cake so I put a basic tutorail on my website to help get you started.  There are links to more indepth video instruction there as well.  I would like you to consider, if you are a stay at home mom, the possiblity of earning extra money selling these unique gists as well.

So, go ahead and print out this list of items you will need to "bake" your diaper cake and then check out the video at my website to learn how to put one together.  You are going to have a blast doing this, I promise.  I got addicted to it and when you see some of the pictures of diaper cakes you will be excited to start making them as well…and possibly start selling the!
Diaper Cake Ingredients:
• 16″ disposable cardboard platter
• Baby bottles, both large and small
• 8 feet of 1" wide ribbon
• Rubber bands both small and large
• Double sided adhesive tape and clear scotch tape
• 50-90 newborn diapers (depends on the size and the number of tiers you desire)
• Decorative baby items (bibs, pacifiers, toys etc.)
• Cake Topper (Usually a stuffed animal or other baby toy centered around party theme)

Assembling Your Diaper Cake:
• Use full size baby bottle to roll your diapers
• When rolling your diapers, have them opened lengthwise with tabs tucked in
• Secure your diapers with a rubber band so they stick together
• Use a ribbon to cover and hide the rubber band and as a decorative touch
• Assemble your tiers on top of your cake platter, using adhesive tape
• Tuck your baby items in the ribbons as decorations
• Top your cake off with something fitting the theme of your party.

Watch instructional videos BEFORE attempting your first cake.  Diapers are expensive and you do not want to ruin them.
Happy baking and have fun!!

Myla, When I started reading I was thinking, 'What would you want to build a diaper cake for?' Then, as I progressed through your article, I realised it was intended as a gift at a baby shower! LOL What a novel idea. I've never heard of it before, obviously. I wish I'd known about them 12 months ago when my first grandson was on his way. Well, there's always the second grandchild, and the third, and ...! Thanks for a fun article.

I know it sounds pretty gross when you first hear the words "diaper cake" as most of us moms have a negative opinion of diapers in general. When you actually see one of these creations in person though, it really is impressive and you can't wait to go out and make one yourself! Thank you for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed the article. lol myla

I have never ever seen one of these before Myla, what a lovely idea. Sadly though we don't have baby showers in the UK. Presents arrive after baby is born and there are generally no parties even after the birth. Mum too tired to particpate ;). Boring lot we are. But if I had one, I'd want one of these!! Is it your invention?
